John J. Pippenger is the recognized dean of the Fluid Power industry. His contributions and involvement span well over half a century. John's role in fluid power ranges from engineer, corporate executive, educator, consultant, professional society member, magazine editor, industry spokesperson, and author of books. He served for a number of years as Educational Coordinator of the Fluid Power Educational Foundation and promotion of fluid power training at the secondary and tertiary levels remains one of his main interests. John's responsibilities have taken him to every corner of the globe, giving him a unique world-wide insight into fluid power trends and developments.

John is retired (well, almost) and lives in Laurium in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The Pippengers including son Curt and grandchildren also have a summer home on Lake Superior in Eagle Harbor.

(For a taste of Eagle Harbor, visit George Hite's Web or to have Copper Country's favorite food shipped to you, visit Stillwater's Pasty Kitchen.)

One of John's semi-retirement activities has been compiling an extensive autobiography entitled, appropriately enough, Taming the Hidden Giant. While the whole work is not yet published, if you were to contact him you might secure information about parts of the work such as the chapter titled, "Life in the Keweenaw."
